Plextor Brings M2 SATA 6Gb/s SSD to North America
Plextor has come out with a new solid state drive line the company says is "currently one of fastest SSDs available in the market." A bold claim, one that's backed up by marrying the new M2 series SSDs with a Marvell 88SS9174 controller. By doing so, the M2 series supports the SATA 6Gb/s interface and offers up read (up to 480MB/s) and write (up to 330MB/s) speeds that mechanical hard drives can only dream about. Shoot, even most high end SSDs don't approach those theoretical numbers, but the M2 brings more to the table than just high transfer speeds.
Plextor also outfitted the M2 series with a generous 128MB DDR3 cache buffer. The result, says Plextor, is faster response times, though the large cache deposit should also help performance stay consistent over time. Also included is Plextor's Instant Restore technology and Dynamic Wear Leveling algorithm.
The M2 series is now shipping in three fun-size capacities, including 64GB ($180), 128GB ($330), and 256GB ($700).

They have always been the apple of my eye for disc burners, but these SSDs are a bit too expensive on Newegg and aren't garnering as many sales as other more popular brands.

They have always been the apple of my eye for disc burners, but these SSDs are bringing up the rear on Newegg and aren't garnering much in the way of good attention.
