Unlocked Nokia N9 Available in US, Just $690
Despite officially moving away from a Symbian/MeeGo focus last Spring, Nokia went ahead with its final MeeGo-based device and put of the N9 just a few months ago. Although the device was never supposed to arrive on American shores, unlocked device reseller Expansys has a brand-new Nokia N9 with your name on it, if you roll that way. This doomed device, will set you back $690, but you so get free shipping.
Many users have noted how depressing it is that Nokia appears to have gotten MeeGo right just before abandoning it for Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 platform. The N9 has almost the same body as the recently announced Lumia 800, but with a slightly larger FWVGA resolution screen. The phone packs in Nokia’s signature penta-band 3G HSPA radio, so it will work on both AT&T and T-Mobile in the US.
Significant updates are unlikely on this device, and the app ecosystem is virtually non-existent. You have to truly respect what the N9 is right now to pick one up, especially for this exorbitant price. Anyone out there tempted?

As pretty as the pink version of that phone is... I will not buy it at the price they are asking for. They must be out of their mind. The WP7 version looks identicle but the difference is WP7 version is made out of plastic where as the original N9 is made out of aluminum. So the expensive price tag is all about the hardware... Is all. But if we are going to spend $690... Why not go for the upcoming LG Prada k2 and go out with a little style? Anyhow... Best of luck for them selling this doomed device.

First of all, the original N9 is not made of aluminum; the Lumia and the N9 are both made of the same polycarbonate material. Second, $690 isn't at all unreasonable for a flagship phone. On Expansys, the iPhone 4S goes for $1100/$1125 for 32GB/64GB versions. Finally, it's not pink; it's magenta :p.
And in the words of The Verge: "Not even the shiny new iPhone 4S feels as luxurious in the hand as the N9."

I hate to say it but... Symbian/Meego is pretty much dead. If I am going to spend $690... I better have a phone that is still supported within 2 years at least. What Nokia should have done was what HP did with WebOS. Just put on a fire sale for their dying platform. The iPhone starting price is $549, but even then, that is too expensive. Of course cellphone companies have to subsidize. Nobody in their right mind would pay for such a price on a phone that may last 2 years. I would not pay any higher than $400 for a flagship phone... And even then, I think cellphones are going out of style like cable boxes. Although I have not personally touched an N9 or Lumia 800... I feel that anything plastic can not feel truly luxurious, no matter how pretty it is.

You can't really compare a normal device against an Apple product. Apple overcharges for everything, such as, $200 for like 2GB of ram on a macbook or something. But realistically, why not pick up an Atrix 2 for like $500? Everything about it is better.
