In the coming weeks, AMD will flesh out its Radeon HD 7000 lineup with its mid-range 7800 Series based on the Sunnyvale chip maker's Pitcairn GPU. Pitcairn slips neatly in between Cape Verde (Radeon HD 7700 Series) and Tahiti (Radeon HD 7900 Series) and will likely consist of three separate videocards, according to information that was leaked to the Web over the weekend.
The average selling price of mechanical hard drives has risen ever since severe floods in Thailand wreaked havoc on HDD manufacturing plants, and on the opposite end of the storage spectrum, the cost of solid state drives (SSDs) has been steadily decreasing as the technology matures. AOC's monitor also houses a pair of 2.5 watt speakers that supposedly deliver SRS-quality sound, though if you're a gamer looking take advantage of the fast refresh rate, you'll undoubtedly be better served by sticking with your 5.1 headset or old school Klipsch 5.1 ProMedia Ultras you bought back in the day.
If the high prices of mechanical hard drives has you feeling blue, perhaps you should use it as an excuse to kick a little green at a high performance solid state drive instead. You won't save any money by going that route, but if it's a matter of principle, or if you've been shopping a fast SSD anyway, SanDisk is hoping you'll consider its new Extreme SSD line.
AMD is giddy as all get-out today over the arrival of its Radeon HD 7770 GHz Edition and HD 7750 graphics cards, the first of which is the world's first graphics card equipped with a 1GHz GPU, the Sunnyvale chip maker claims. The 7750's special talent is that it doesn't require its own separate power connector and pushing gaming grade pixels while staying under 75W.
Motherboard makers are just as anxious for Intel's upcoming Ivy Bridge launch as the rest of us are, and some of them have already begun rolling out slabs of silicon built around the Z77 chipset. Such is the case with Biostar, which unveiled its TZ77XE4 motherboard at CeBIT 2012. The TZ77XE4 is a socket 1155 part with native SuperSpeed USB 3.0 support.
A Chinese website posted details about six upcoming AMD Accelerated Processing Units (APUs) built around the chip maker's Trinity architecture. These include a pair of dual-core processors and four quad-core parts with improved graphics.
